about
This retro pop track tells the story of shedding your skin through a big band sound, and builds upon the sonically rich world that Sam The Woo began in her debut single "Inhibitions". SKINSUIT - a name Sam uses for her people pleasing persona - manifests as a song you can dance to and blast in the shower. Particular inspirations from this track were other NY-based soul pop groups like Sammy Rae and Lawrence the Band.
lyrics
Made myself a skin suit
It’s unbelievably trapping
been sweating for years
Bet you didn’t know
(know, know , know, know)
I wouldn’t say that I look different
My suit’s top of the line
It’d be hard to pick out anyways
So used to seeing yours and mine
Tailor maid
Super secret
Cant reveal that I don’t live here
This is not my habitat
Made it up
I want me back
Tailor maid
Super secret
Trained
This is not my habitat
I want
I want me back
Momma started sweating
She has that kinda sense
Freaking out
“You’re letting, them control you - every tense”
I see it in your eyes
When you wake up in the morning
Somethings not clicking and everything dripping
Help
Tailor maid
Super secret
Cant reveal that I don’t live here
This is not my habitat
Made it up
I want me back
Tailor maid
Super secret
Fake
This is not my habitat
I want
I want me back
Taking off my suit skin
Makes me feel so raw
I whisper “I am worth it”
I make myself song
Hmm (hum tailor made melody)
ba ba ba ba BA
Hmm (hum tailor made melody partly)
Trained
They want me trained
They want me train
da da da da da dah
They want me -
Tailor maid
Super secret
Cant reveal that I don’t live here
Wanna own my habitat
Ba ba ba Ba ba Ba baaaa
Tailor maid
Super secret
This game
Well guess what they're losin’ that
I’ll get me
I’ll get me back
